Jo Sharp has released a replacement for her beautiful Alpaca Silk Georgette, whose palette has been slowly diminishing of late. Mulberry Silk Georgette is a beautifully fine yarn with 25% Mulberry Silk and 75% Merino. It is ideal for baby and to wear close to the skin and is a hand wash fabric. Mulberry Silk Georgette knits to a very similar tension to Alpaca Silk Georgette, therefore Alpaca Silk Georgette patterns may be used with this yarn. Resulting garments will be a little lighter and softer. Note that the following three Alpaca Silk Georgette shades are being replaced within this collection: Pebble, Devon, Woodland.
Mulberry Silk is the finest, smoothest and most lustrous silk available in the market. A premium is paid for Mulberry Silk, which was first developed in China and is made from the silkworms of the Bombyx Mori Moth. The moths are kept in a controlled environment, free from noise and strong odour and are fed exclusively on Mulberry leaves. Mulberry Silk is superior to other “wild silks” which are grown from a variety of feeds, and which tend to be rougher in texture, heavier and less lustrous.
Here is the stunning Watermelon, we currently have Acid, Doe, Evening, Fig, Watermelon and Woodland available. As we sell out of our current stocks of Alpaca Silk Georgette we will completely replace it with the 11 colours available in Mulberry Silk Georgette.
