A Scottish Sampler: XVII Century Style Sampler
In the 16th and 17th centuries, when needlework books were still rare, designs and stitches were recorded on Samplers. The early ones were long (up to 40″) and narrow (6-8″) and kept rolled up in the workbox for reference. The bands in this piece are taken from various samplers in Scottish Museums.
Scottish Samplers, design size 97w x 191h.
